Lascar Volcano

Father of all volcanoes, Láscar, which in the Kunza language means, “Toungue of fire”, is one of the most active throughout the country, the last most important activity was in 2015 and it is found with volcanic fumaroles constantly.

Pick up at the lodging, at dawn, we enjoy breakfast in the Lejía lagoon, a beautiful place that is at a height of 4325masl, we take a breath and head towards the base of the volcano to begin the trek, of moderate difficulty, it took us approximately 3 hours of climbing to reach the crater and another 40 minutes to reach the top, from that point we can appreciate the surprising emanation of sulfurous gases that come out of the interior of Láscar. The tour has a total time of almost 11 hours.

It is possible to ascend almost the entire year, between January and February it is necessary to check the weather forecast since there are snowfalls associated with the altiplanic winter or precipitation, but these are not an impediment for being able to ascend, on the contrary, you may find yourself with a much more beautiful landscape and it is possible to alleviate the load of water that must be carried on the excursion.

Around Láscar there are other volcanoes such as Pili, Chiliques and Tumisa, which are considered sanctuaries for the ancestral population.
